Ladies from Umeå sing the blues
A SEK 20,014 Cultural Boost goes to the Umeå Blues Association for their event ”Lady Sings The Blues”.
The evening will be a tribute to the blues/jazz singer Billie Holliday who released the classic album ”Lady Sings the Blues” in 1956.
– Umeå is a city with long jazz and blues traditions. We want to highlight the great musical treasure called blues and the amazing female singers here in Umeå, says Anders Sundén at Umeå Blues Association.
Umeå Blues Association is planning to put together one or two backing bands to accompany the singers.
– I think that Umeå Blues Associations is the music cultural organization that has the most equal programme of all music associations in Umeå. This arrangement is therefore fully in our line, says Anders Sundén.
The association will explore possibilities of cooperation with local schools to let students take the blues roots to today’s popular music.
”Lady Sings The Blues” will be held in the winter or spring of 2014.
