Wants to give everyone access to the music
Kristina Sturk wants give people who for various reasons are not reached by the regular selection of concert music a chance to experience live music of high quality. The project ”In the midst of the music” will therefore receive a Cultural Boost of SEK 20,014 that will make it possible.
Kristina Sturk has previously arranged concerts for young children with the aim of letting them be physically near good, live music. Something that has been appreciated by both children and parents, who would otherwise find it difficult to go to concerts. Now she wants to take the concept one step further and provide the music for adults with an early stage of development or with intellectual disabilities, other groups that rarely have the opportunity to visit concert halls.
”The idea that ??a similar concert format also would suit this group came from people working in daily activities that had heard about my kids concerts. For me it’s important to make it possible for everyone to experience live music – especially classical music where the thresholds for the great concert venues can sometimes seem somewhat higher,” Kristina Sturk explains.
She will be working with a string quintet consisting of musicians who have their base at NorrlandsOperan.
The concert will besides gems from the classical repertoire also include some folk songs in beautiful arrangements, as well as music games and easy theater. During the concert the participants gets to listen, but also sing along and interact with the music.
”The concert is more like a workshop than a concert with passive listeners. The aim is that the participants will get to experience music in a close way and with multiple senses.”
”In the midst of the music” will receive support in the form of a Cultural Boost of SEK 20,014. The Cultural Boost has been an opportunity for associations and independent actors to apply for a grant of up to SEK 20,014 to organize projects and events during the European Capital of Culture year.
Now the process of preparing a pilot concert begins. Kristina Sturk hopes that more people of the same audience in Umeå, and at a later stage also in the northern region, can take part of one ”In the midst of the music” concert.
