EYP Sweden's 1st Youth Forum
The European Youth Parliament is a non-partisan and religiously unaffiliated organisation that extends to over 37 European countries. The organisation welcomes thousands of teenagers every year to promote an open, unprejudiced, and cross-cultural debate. It offers young European citizens a platform to exchange ideas and visions with fellow European young adults whilst discussing current events and the future of Europe.
In June 2014, EYP Sweden is organising its first International Youth Forum. Young adults from all over Europe will gather to discuss allocated committee topics that are relevant to today’s societal issues.
European teenagers interest for politics today is alarmingly low, and Sweden is no exception. The general consensus amongst young European citizens is that decisions are being made on a plane that is out of reach. For many, the EU is a remote and irrelevant institution in their everyday life.
The Youth Forum wishes to gather tomorrow’s future leaders and strengthen their knowledge on today’s social issues to secure Europe’s future. The theme is “Growth Through Culture” and with this we want to raise young people’s awareness of the role of culture in society, to contribute to the development of a European identity and contribute to a Europe where young people are interested in current political issues and where they are free to express their opinions.
