Kindergartens and primary schools in the Glass House

Come and take part in children’s creativity and cultural expressions in the Glass House at Rådhustorget. Culture and aesthetics are important parts of the learning experience and this is an opportunity for kindergarten and elementary school teachers and children to show how they are working in aesthetic learning processes with photography, music, arts and recycling during the European Capital of Culture year in Umeå. There will be exhibitions, workshops, performances and talks. Welcome inside!

Young people’s views on our age
Hosts: Teg Central School, Alfredo Castro.
An exhibition of 9Bis, Alexandra Widmark, Kevin Tornemar, Wilma Johansson and Filip Orre.

Wednesday, October 8 at 12:00 to 17:00
We are sailing!
Hosts: Holmsund / Obbola school district,
The schools in Holmsund-Obbola present their activities with focus on nature, culture and sports. They offer music activities, art projects and a nature and water week with sailing and football on the schedule.

12:00 to 13:00
Lunch music by students from Obbola. Every hour, on the hour, a special fanfare will sound over the square.

Monday, October 13 at 12:00 to 17:00
Hosts: West school district (Sörfors, Brännland and Överboda preschool classes and the Brännland school).
Slideshows, film screening and a sculpture exhibition. Presentation of the working processes and the children’s reflections on their visit to the Umedalen sculpture park. A creative corner where visitors can sketch or write down thoughts from the visit.

Tuesday, October 14 at 12:00 to 17:00
Hosts: Marie school district, Erika Grankvist and Pernilla Bern.
Get a unique insight into how one of the municipal kindergartens, Mariehem preschool, is working with the Capital of Culture year. Exhibitions with self-portraits, felted wool and illustrated puzzle pieces.

Drop-in: Make self-portraits with various materials.

Wednesday, October 15 at 12:00 to 17:00
Universal equality and diversity
Hosts: Hedlundaskolan, Linnéa Plam
Meet students and teachers presenting their school projects.

12:00 to 14:30
“Mine is yours” – read the students’ digital books or make your own digital book.

12:00 to 13:30
Take a look at the school blog and the work with equality. Add to the school’s diversity puzzle – every visitor can paint and draw a new piece of the puzzle.

12:00 to 17:00
Shop in the school’s second hand store. The money goes to a school in Vietnam. What is diversity to you? Write a note and contribute to the diversity collage.

13:30 to 14:30
Buy bread from different countries. Students sing, read poems and talk about Hedlundaskolan.

14:30 to 17:00
The work with different native languages throughout our city is presented. Take the opportunity to learn a few words or phrases in a new language.

Thursday, October 16 at 12:00 to 17:00
Portrait of Haga school district
Hosts: Haga school district, Magdalena Säfvenstedt / Maria Granberg
Exhibition of portraits, project documentations, e-books from the Haga school district plus films from a musical project and a charcoal kiln.

Wednesday, October 22 at 12:00 to 17:00
Hosts: Röbäck school district
The childcare service in the Röbäck school district offers a colourful presentation of the children’s creativity and joy. See how the children find new uses for recycled materials and how they experiment to discover and learn more about mathematical quantities (larger, longer, over, under, etc …).
