Swedish Picture Book of the Year
Anna Höglund’s Om detta talar man endast med kaniner (Topics of which you only speak with rabbits) is recognised as the Swedish Picture Book of the Year. It will be showcased in an exhibition at Bildmuseet, in conjunction to the winner being announced at Littfest – Umeå International Literature Festival 2014.
The picture book is an art form that can appeal to all ages. Anna Höglund’s Om detta talar man endast med kaniner is aimed at teenagers and adults. Citing the prize motivation, Anna Höglund has “created a picture book story that does not undervalue its readers. In poetic text and powerful images she brings us into a young person’s unsecured existence. Images referencing to works by other artists give an extra dimension to this tale of alienation, high sensitivity and the actual conditions of growing. It is a magnificent and courageous work that shows the abilities of the picture book to reach readers of all ages, and is also a true aesthetic experience in design, paper and print.”
Snöbollen – The Swedish Picture Book of the Year is the sole award in Sweden that highlights the picture book as an artistic medium. The prize is awarded during Littfest – Umeå International Literature Festival in March 2014. The initiative for the prize has been taken by Krumelur – the organisation for young words in the north, together with Umeå 2014, the Astrid Lindgren Foundation Solkatten, Kulturföreningen Pilgatan, County Libraries of Västerbotten and Västernorrland, Littfest and Bildmuseet.
During this exhibition period, the theme of picture books will be the focus of activities in our workshop which is open to all ages.
