Wide Open Spaces Within Me
Concert piece composed by Svante Henryson with texts from the Sami poetry collection Lávlo vizar biellocizaš (Sing chirp Bluethroat), part of the trilogy Wide Open Spaces Within Me, by Aslak Valkeapää, who took Sami culture into the artistic arena. The hour long piece is written for mixed choir, children’s choir, narrator, solo cello, and an orchestra consisting of flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, French horn, bass guitar, drum set, three violins, three violas, three cellos and a double bass. In total, fifteen musicians from northern Norway, an Umeå choir, two musicians from Umeå and a Sami reciter from northern Norway participate alongside Svante Henryson himself.
