Events for this project:
The Swedish Association of persons with Neurological Disabilities (NHR), Umeå’s local branch, is a non-profit and independent organisation that works to improve the situation for both people with neurological diseases or injuries and their relatives and friends. Members initiated the theatre project Tolv during 2012 together with the theatre group Ögonblicksteatern in Umeå. The members write their own scripts for the performances. The objective of the theatre project is first to show that different groups can participate in various social functions on equal terms and second to demonstrate the importance of accessibility in the public sector.
– We will widen the scope of opportunities of expressing ourselves culturally with this project, states Camilla Björnehall, member of the local NHR branch in Umeå.
The first performance will take place on Ögonblicksteatern’s accessible stages during the fall 2012. However, it is thought that the drama activities will be a yearly project for the members of the association. The project is now looking to develop cooperation with Latvia for the coming European Capital of Culture 2014 in Umeå and Riga.
The project has been awarded a cultural boost for initiating cooperation in drama activities in organisations for the disabled together with an organisation in Latvia.
– We have been in contact with Sustento, the Latvian Umbrella Body for Disability Organizations, which is interested in working together with drama activities in organisations for the disabled and in initiating an exchange, relates Anders Jonsson, treasurer for the local NHR branch in Umeå.
